This year, in honor of a quarter century of Stooge-inspired mayhem, our A-1 Deluxe Selection Committee has curated the "Best of The Best” from the many Stooges shorts we’ve screened over the years. Again this year, the program will be presented from archival 35mm prints, courtesy of Sony Pictures, projected on the big screen at the Alex. Join Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp and laugh yourself into the Holiday Season with the very best of the most enduring comedy team in motion picture history. This Year's Lineup - "The Best of the Best" Micro-Phonies (1943; Director: Edward Bernds) Moe, Larry and Curly find themselves impersonating a famous opera singer to help a young woman (Christine McIntyre) pursue her career dreams. This film showcases Moe's surly leadership, Curly's engaging physical comedy and Larry's flawless timing, all while delivering hilarious mistaken identities, misunderstandings and chaos. Waiting For The Alex To Reopen Film Events April 26, 2020June 25, 2021 Time marches on, and yet movie theatres and performing arts venues - including the Alex Theatre - remain closed in Los Angeles County. Movie theatres in nearby counties are starting to reopen, but often with significant restrictions on seating plans and the size of the audience. This same period has seen a renaissance of drive-in theatres, which are thriving. Our partners at Glendale Arts, the operating entity of the theatre, have been diligently working to develop plans to make patrons feel safe and protected once the appropriate governing bodies allow theatres to reopen. However, there still isn't an estimated date of when that may occur. As previously announced, AFS has canceled most of our remaining 2020 screenings, specifically our annual Halloween show and The Greatest Cartoons Ever! at Christmas. We now have an update regarding our most popular annual event. 23rd Annual The Three Stooges® Big Screen Event! Cancelled for 2020 - We Hope to Be Back in 2021 All summer long we've been hoping that progress would be made toward reopening theatres, and that this iconic event could be held on its scheduled date of Saturday, November 28, 2020. However, with the currrent uncertainty of when venues might re-open, and the extent to which patrons would be ready to return, we've reluctantly decided to Cancel the 2020 edition. We are well aware of the loyal, enthusiastic fan base that this event has attracted, and how it has become an annual Thanksgiving tradition for many of you.
